Gonna be nervous all day until we get the draft results.

Let’s hope we have better luck this time around.

Crazy that our odds of staying at 2 and 3 are 3% only, but we have a higher % of getting pick 1 and 2 at 4%

How does that make sense? Shouldn’t we have higher odds of staying put at our current positions?

Times in the past where a team has had 2 top 5 picks:

1997 - NY Islanders - Roberto Luongo & Eric Brewer
1999 - Vancouver - Daniel Sedein & Hendrik Sedin
2000 - NY Islanders - Rick DiPietro & Raffi Torres

i keep telling myself to not be disappointed if both picks drop out of the top 3, that we're still getting excellent high end players...…………..but I know that i'll be pissed if we don't have at least 1 top 3 pick.

One top 3 pick. That's the bar I think most people have set.

For the Senators fans’ sakes I hope they get picks 1 and 2. They deserve it after everything they’ve been through for the last several years. But I will feel sorry for whatever players Ottawa picks because they’ll have to deal with that a hole owner.

That's pretty much what I have been hoping for. Of course, getting any two of the top three picks would be great.

I know it depends on the results of the play-in round, but do we know where that pick from the Islanders can land if they do not advance to the playoffs?

I think 13th is the best possible, assuming they dont win the lottery( the pick is protected) as one of the "placeholder teams".

Unless we get the 1st overall, I’d be pretty upset if we moved from 2 and 3.

2 and 4 is acceptable, but I don’t wanna move any further then that.

I just like having back to back picks! It doesn’t happen. And Dorion, if he didn’t want to draft 2 centers, can maybe swing a deal with one of those picks.

Obviously you could draft drysdale (at 3) but Byfield seems like a consensus top 3 (and I’ve assumed we take Stutzle lol)

I have set the bar at #3 and #5. Anything lower would be a disappointment.

agree

I'm ok with the following: 1 & 5 , 2 & 5, 3 & 4

3 & 5 would not be disappointing but 4 & 5 would be

We all know that everyone wants Lafreniere. But if we do not get the first pick, who is everyone hoping to nab in the top 6? Who might be a bust?
I like:
Stutzle
and
Drysdale (although feel we do have enough defensive prospect depth now)
So - Raymond.
I worry about Byfield - is he good in junior because of his size, which will not be a deciding factor in the NHL ?

At the end of the day, the Senators are going to get 2 good players out of this regardless of how this plays out.

I am rooting for you guys, Ottawa fans need some good news, we had Ballard for years so we kind of get the whole Melnyk thing to a degree.

As a leaf fan, I miss the rivalry, it just hasn't been the same in recent years.

If NONE of the eight play-off teams win the lottery, then Daly will start his flipping/countdown at 7OA.

If ONE of the eight play-off teams win the lottery, then Daly will start his flipping/countdown at 8OA.

If TWO of the eight play-off teams win the lottery, then Daly will start his flipping/countdown at 9OA.

If ALL THREE of the eight play-off teams win the lottery, then no flipping/countdown will occur as we will know where every team stands

So if we don’t get Laf..ideally you want Stützle.

I’m not saying this because McKenzie put
him at 2, in previous blogs I said Stutzle, to me, is the 2nd best player in this draft (and I could give plenty of reasons why).

In terms of who might be a bust in the top 10...Sanderson (because he doesn’t belong in the top 10), Holtz maybe (because skating is an issue). Rossi (size an issue, not a big enough resume and caught fire as the season went on..wasn’t even a top 10 projected player).

I don’t think you should worry about Byfield..there seems to be Logan brown comparison and I assure you he is levels above him based on his two way play, and elite hockey iq. Size obviously helped him, but he’s actually so quick for his frame..which makes him a unique player in this draft..not to mention he’s the youngest of the top 10

The NHL will have its biggest PR disaster in sports history, even worst if it ends up being TOR or PIT or EDM or any of the teams was was almost guaranteed a playoff spot at the break that now may lose on purpose to get a top 3 pick...the NHL IMO (frank)ed up, proving again they a barn league and not a proper pro league.

Agreed - they always seem to over think and over complicate things. 7 non-playoff teams go in the lottery, the others fall into place based on standings - boom, DONE! Or they can do a lotter for picks 8-15 for the 8 loosing teams in qualifier.
This is dumb.

Teams like Montreal still deserved a shot at the lottery. If they get bounced in three games and lose thdir chance to move up the fans would have a legitimate complaint.

MTL should NOT be in the qualifying rounds they had ZERO chance at making the playoffs same with CHI, AZ also had a long shot at playoffs but they where only 4 points behind so let them choose, play off qualifying or lottery shot, one or the other.

the NHL is setting themselves up for a poop storm of epic proportions if a team like TOR, EDM or PIT or any of the other teams that where playoffs locks but now must play qualifying series end up in the top 3. this would be a bettman+ others NHL execs resigning type poop storm.

Pretty much agree with you.

That’s why I was hoping the NHL would use the old draft format for JUST this year.

It’s just not fair that teams like Chicago and Mtl get a shot at potentially competing for a cup when they were out of it..mtl had 1% to make the playoffs.

We know at the end of the day it’s a money move to recoup the losses, but THIS format, favors those bubble teams.

What exactly do the bottom 7 teams get? Our season ended. Those bubble teams not only get a shot to go deep, but have insurance at the same time at our expense.
